Local property specialists, Tanner & Tilley Town Planning Consultants, Bournecoast Property Agents and Matthew & Matthew Solicitors held a seminar at the Green House Hotel Grove Road last Thursday which was well attended by around 100 property and hotel professionals with the subject being hotel redevelopment.

The seminar focussed on the merits and pitfalls of selling off hotels for development into residential flats and the restrictions to be considered. The seminar looked at how this affects developers and the impact on the tourism industry and local communities.

The three speakers were-

Des Simmons from Bournecoast Property Agents, who is also the Vice-Chairman of Bournemouth Area Hospitality Association (BAHA). Des focussed on holiday lets, legal agreements, tax issues and what is likely to be allowed.

John Montgomery Director at Tanner & Tilley Town Planning Consultants who discussed the application of Council Policy, Strategies to address these policies with a view to maximising the development potential and viability discussions after planning has been agreed (if necessary). John Montgomery also touched on what other options there are for hotel owners and developers.

Finally, Louise Vermeulen, from Matthew & Matthew, who talked about the issues relating to conveyancing, covenants and legal agreements affecting holiday lets.

After the seminar there was a lively questions section and a period of networking and the feedback received from attendees was that the seminar was very useful indeed.
