Meet the Directors
Peter Tanner MRTPI BA Dip TP - Managing DirectorIn addition to managing a busy dedicated team of planning professionals and their support staff, Peter Tanner’s knowledge and experience in both general planning issues and in housing for the elderly spans 3 decades and 2 continents. He is a Chartered Town Planner and a Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute. From his experience across both District and Borough Councils in London and elsewhere in the UK and as a senior planning officer with Johannesburg City Council, to his time as National Planning Advisor to McCarthy & Stone (Developments) Limited, one of the UK’s foremost companies in the construction of housing for the elderly, Peter has built a level of knowledge and expertise which it would be difficult to match. Whether it is planning issues relating to care developments, retirement housing or general planning matters, Clients who know the value of high quality guidance and advice rely on Peter’s extensive knowledge and experience. He specialises in the coordination of major planning projects and appeals, and in presenting planning evidence at appeal Hearings and Public Inquiries. He is regularly called upon to appear as an Expert Witness. When not looking after the interest of our Clients, Peter enjoys relaxing by being taken for a walk by the dog! – or socializing with family and friends. He tries to find time to indulge his interests in tennis, sailing, golf and painting – and thinks there’s nothing finer than a refreshing pint of real ale on a warm summers evening. John Montgomery FRICS MRTPI - Operations DirectorJohn Montgomery is the Operations Director responsible for the overall delivery of an efficient and professional service to our clients. Whilst specialising in Retirement Housing and Care Developments he also has a vast knowledge and experience in all aspects of development planning. He is also an expert on planning enforcement and lawful use. A Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and a Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute, John’s considerable experience includes the negotiation of major development projects such as solar farms, retirement villages, hotel re-developments and care complexes as well as open market housing schemes. He is also national planning advisor to the Retirement Housing Group. With more than 35 years’ experience in planning and development, 16 of which were in local government where he attained the position of Assistant Director of Planning with direct responsibility for Development Control, John has a thorough understanding of planning law and policy. John has extensive experience in Public Inquiries and is regularly called upon to act as an Expert Witness. For relaxation John enjoys sailing - both cruising and racing as well as exploring the wild coastal tracts of the West Country. Roger Tilley MRTPI (RTD) - Director - Company ChairmanAfter a career in town planning spanning nearly 50 years, Roger Tilley retired from full time involvement with Tanner & Tilley in August 2011. But that wealth of experience and knowledge has not been lost - Roger remains a Consultant to the Practice and continues to work with and advise Clients. Roger is also Company Chairman and continues developing the Practice, helping mentor staff and promoting the quality commercial ethos that Tanner & Tilley are renowned for. Roger’s background and knowledge of housing for older people and the care industry has not been lost. He is Treasurer to the Retirement Housing Group and continues to advise care and housing Clients. When Roger is not ‘helping out’ at Tanner & Tilley he can now devote more time to his many outside interests. Roger is Chair of a local Citizen’s Advice Bureau and much of his time is spent on charitable activities. He enjoys oil and watercolour painting which is a bonus with seven grandchildren to entertain! For those Clients who have benefited from Roger’s help and wise counsel over the years, he can still be contacted via Tanner & Tilley. |
